Don’t have the perfect smile? You are not alone, and you don’t have to live with it, thanks to cosmetic dentistry. In the last couple of decades, cosmetic dentistry has come a long way, and most of the treatments and procedures are safer than ever before. In this post, we have tried to explain three common cosmetic dentistry treatments. If you want to know more in general about the discipline, you can see this here.

Teeth Whitening

Medications, smoking, selected beverages and food items can stain your teeth over a period of time. Teeth Whitening is the procedure of bleaching teeth at the dental clinic. In some cases, dentists may offer a ready-to-use kit too. If you consider to opt for the latter, it may take a while before you see considerable difference in your teeth color. In-clinic treatments are more effective, and one session lasts for about one to two hours. Your teeth can appear up to nine shades light, depending on the treatment. However, talk to your dentist if you have sensitive gums and to know if you are an ideal candidate for the procedure.

Bonding

If you have teeth with space between them, bonding might be the best procedure for you. Special materials are used for filling up the cavities or to repair broken and cracked teeth. In some cases, bonding is almost a necessity to prevent further damage to the tooth. Composite resins can be applied to the tooth’s surface directly, and the whole procedure can be completed in a single visit. Bonding is ideal for people who don’t want to go for invasive procedures, such as dental veneers. With good care, bonding should last for a least a few years.

Veneers

If you are not a good candidate for teeth whitening or bonding, veneers are probably the only choice. Basically, this procedure involves using porcelain or plastic veneers, which are attached to the frontal surface of the teeth, so as to change color or shape, as required. In terms of effectiveness and appearance, veneers are certainly better than bonding. Veneers can be used for all kinds of chipped, crooked or cracked teeth. Porcelain veneers must be made in a lab, so you will need two appointments with your dentist. A special beam of light is used for cementing the veneers to the teeth, after which additional polishing is done to get the desired shape. Your dentist may want to explain the procedure in detail, because this is irreversible. You can also check this site for more details on veneers.

Dental implants are also common these days and are ideal for replacing your flimsy dentures. Getting implants and subsequent replacement teeth may take a while, almost up to 12 weeks, because implants are permanent. Also, cost of most of these procedures is not covered under insurance, so it is wise to discuss the costs with your doctor in advance. Do not shy away from asking questions related to risks and concerns if any. Check online for cosmetic dentistry clinics near you!
